Sofia Vergara is an actress and model from Colombia. She was born July 10th, 1972 in Barranquilla, Columbia. Vergara's mother was a housewife while her father worked for the beef industry. She has five siblings and a large family of aunts, uncles and cousins. The Vergara family was affluent and Sofia was sent to a private school which was bilingual. This would make her transition into English-language film roles easier later on.
When Sofia Vergara was 18 years old, she married her childhood sweetheart and had a son two years later in 1992. Vergara later divorced her husband and studied dentistry before deciding to try a career in modeling and entertainment. By that time, Vergara had already had success as a model in Columbia. A commercial she did for Pepsi at the age of 17 was seen all throughout her country. She decided to transition into television and succeeded. She was the co-host of the program "Fuera de serie" (Out of the Ordinary) as well as the show "A que no te atreves" (Over the Top) from 1995 to 1999.
Despite her success in Columbia, Vergara was eager to leave her country due to political unrest. Her brother had been kidnapped in 1998 and was murdered when the plot went foul. With her son, mother and sister, Vergara went to Miami, Florida. There Sofia Vergara got a job working for WTVJ and then went on to get roles in TV shows like "Hot Properties". In 2007, Vergara got a regular role on the series "Dirty Sexy Money". She was also regularly seen on the cover of man men's magazines such as Maxim. The magazine also named Vergara on their Hot 100 list in 2008.
