Singer Severina Vuckovic was born April 21st, 1972 in Split, Croatia. She began her career by competing in local contests in the 1980s and acting in theater and opera in Split.

Because it was clear that Severina had talent, she moved to Zagreb in order to pursue a music career in 1989. During that same year, Severina recorded a self-titled album which was met with incredible success. She released six more albums throughout the 1990s and each one added to her existing stardom. By the time her 2001 album titled "Pogled ispod obrva" was released, Severina was considered one of the biggest Croatian stars ever. She had the honor of representing her country in the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest which was held in Athens, Greece and finished in 13th place. Many of Severina's countrymen criticized the singer because they claimed her song resembled music from Serbia. Political tensions were very high between the two countries. Severina denied any resemblance and cited Croatian folk influences.

In 2008, Severina released her 10th album titled "Zdravo Marijo". The majority of the songs were composed by Goran Bregovic including the album's first single, "Gas". Again, Severina received criticism for the music's resemblance to Serbia's turbo folk. In total, Severina has released 14 studio albums to date.

In 2004, Severina became part of a huge media sensation when a homemade sex tape of her was leaked online. She was with Milan Lucic, a Bosnian-Croat businessman who was married at the time the film was made. The film contradicted Severina's image as a devout Catholic and promoter of abstinence. Even though Severina fought against the film's distribution, it actually helped boost her popularity and took her career to a world-wide level.
