Sarah Michelle Gellar is an actress who gained popularity from her role in the TV show "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". Her married name is now Sarah Michelle Prinze but she is often referred to by her maiden name. Gellar was born April 14th, 1977 in New York City to Jewish parents. They divorced in 1984 and Sarah Michelle was raised by her mother and lost contact with her father until he died in 2001.
Gellar got her start when she was four years old and an agent discovered her in an Uptown restaurant. She was cast in the TV movie "An Invasion of Privacy" two weeks later. While still a child actress, Gellar was in commercials, did modeling work and appeared in TV series and films with small roles. In 1993, Gellar got her first break when she was cast in the soap opera "All My Children". She was on the show until 1995 and appeared in 25 episodes. Two years after "All My Children", Gellar got the role that would make her career. She was cast as the lead character in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". The show was successful and lasted through seven seasons. During this time, Gellar also starred in many major films including "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and "Scream 2" in 1997 and "Cruel Intentions" in 1999. She was able to prove herself as a serious actress capable of taking on versatile roles. After she left "Buffy" in 2004 claiming that she needed a rest, Gellar appeared in several films though none were major hits.
In 2002, Gellar married her boyfriend since 2000 actor Freddie Prinze, Jr. They had a daughter together in 2009. Michelle Gellar is also a humanitarian who has advocated for many charities.
