When you think of child stars you tend to think of drug busts, flameouts and police standoffs. The craziest thing Evan Rachel Wood has ever done is date Marilyn Manson. The daughter of actors Ira David Wood III and Sara Lynn Moore, Evan displayed a maturity well beyond her years since breaking into the industry at the age of seven, and not in the creepy Dakota Fanning kind of way. Although her first few projects were admittedly modest in scope, Evan Rachel Wood soon hit the big time when she scored recurring roles in series such as American Gothic, Profiler and Once and Again.
Her big break, however, came in 2003 when she starred in Thirteen, a gritty coming-of-age film written and directed by Catherine Hardwicke. Unlike her other roles, Thirteen fully displayed Evan Rachel Wood�s impressive range, and she reaped the rewards with subsequent roles in The Missing (2003), starring Cate Blanchett and Tommy Lee Jones, The Upside of Anger (2005), starring Joan Allen and Kevin Costner, and Down in the Valley (2005), starring Edward Norton.
Evan Rachel Wood was cast in the 2006 films Running with Scissors and the '07 flicks Across the Universe and The King of California. In 2008, she starred in Terra, The Life Before Her Eyes with Uma Thurman and Bronte.
Her movies might garner her attention from the critics, but it was Evan Rachel Wood's relationship to rocker/demon Marilyn Manson that got her serious attention of the general public. They confirmed that they were dating in 2007, and Wood appeared in the music video for "Heart-Shaped Glasses." Marilyn Manson also painted two portraits of Evan, and they were exhibited at the Celebritarian Corporation Gallery of Fine Art. Their relationship ended in mid-2009, and Wood has recently been photographed out with actor Shane West. Step up or step down? It depends if what you deem as a step up: eccentric absinthe-drinking shock rocker or has-been teen star?
Evan Rachel Wood stars in Woody Allen's latest film, Whatever Works. She stars opposite Larry David, who plays a chess teacher living in New York's Chelsea district who comes home to his apartment to find a young woman lying on his doorstep, played by Wood. Is Wood taking over in Allen's films where Scarlett Johansson left off? Only time will tell.
