Amerie
Amerie Rogers was born to a South Korean mother and African-American father. Amerie's father being in the United States military, so she traveled to and lived in many different places, including Texas, Alaska, South Korea and Germany.
Amerie graduated from Georgetown University in 2000 with a dual degree in English and Fine Arts. She has said that she considers Washington D.C. her home. She has one sibling, a younger sister named Angela. Amerie and her sister's first language is Korean, and Amerie has a large following in South Korea.
Throughout early 2002, Amerie's first single, "Why Don't We Fall In Love", from her debut album All I Have received much urban radio airplay. Based on the single's success, All I Have eventually sold more than half a million copies in the United States. After the success of her first album, Amerie was hired as the host of a then-new show on BET (Black Entertainment Television) called The Center. She left the show before her contract was up however, to accept a supporting role in the 2004 romantic comedy First Daughter, starring Tom Cruise's wife, Katie Holmes.
Amerie released her sophomore album "Touch" on April 26, 2005. Once again the album was primarily produced by mentor Rich Harrison, who contributed seven tracks to the record. It debuted and peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and No. 3 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. In August 2005, "Touch" was eventually certified gold, like its predecessor, "All I Have". Amerie's third album, "Because I Love It" was released in Europe in May 2007 and a few months later in North America. Her fourth release, "In Love & War", dropped in November 2009.
